Hello my name is Debbie Swanson.  This is my first year working as a Reading and Math Specialist in first grade.  I am very excited about my new position and looking forward to a great year.  I have had a wide variety of experiences when it comes to working with children.  I have taught first, seventh, third and fourth grades.   I taught Kindergarten for twelve years before taking my current position.   Before I started teaching I was a special education aid for seven years at the Chamberlain School.  I worked for the City of Chamberlain for thirteen years as their recreation director.  I have coached children of all ages in softball, baseball, and gymnastics.  My husband and I do not have any children, but I will love yours like my own. 

My husband and I live south of town and he works with his dad on the family farm.  I enjoy gardening and golfing in the summer.  I also like to go to sales/auctions and find old things that inspire me to redo or create new things.  The students will soon learn that my favorite color is orange, and I collect Coca-Cola memorabilia and elephants.

I am very excited about the  new school year!  I attended some fun workshops this past summer and I can’t wait to share all the things that I learned.   I will be working with all the first grade students.  Most of the time I will be teaching reading, but I will be teaching some math.  You will be amazed at how much your child will be reading this year!  It is so much fun to learn how to read!
